| One of the most common and popular areas of business activity
in the international arena is that of import export. Many people
around the world make their living off of a single market niche.
They find one or more products which fill a particular need or demand
and they contribute in one way or another to make it available to
the intended market.
If they can find a particular unique product which is produced
in their own backyard, with the internet, finding customers abroad
is not near as difficult or costly as it once was.
Conversely, if one is able to develop local contacts who purchase
certain types of products, finding quality products at competitive
prices to offer those buyers can be done with a little bit of legwork.
If that business can be established with a regular and ongoing
shipping schedule to meet the need, the exporter or importer has
a nice business with a residual base of income.
In a recent trip to New York, my taxi driver was from Pakistan
and was investing about $4,000 to bring in a container load of very
cheap socks made in his home country. The price was so good, he
felt that the worst case scenario was that if he just had to unload
them at cost, someone would still be getting a very good deal, so
he would not be at financial risk to any large degree.
Of course there are other things to consider such as shipping,
import duties, customs clearing and storage & warehousing. These
can be relatively simple matters as there are always companies offering
services which specialize in these areas.
If one is not in a position to finance such an activity, there
is still money to be made as a product broker or sales agent. Merely
make the contacts with distributors, who will make the purchase,
and you arrange a sales commission from the product manufacturer.
That's simple enough !
